Don't get me wrong: CR(06) was a wonderful, entertaining film - and so much better than Die Another Day - but it didn't quite get there in several places for me so I think there is room for, indeed there needs to be, improvement. I recognise the critcism above that it looked a bit Bourne-like and I think this is a mistake. All other contenders to the throne have come and gone ... some have been good, very good, and the Bourne triology sits in the category of entertaining modern action thrillers. But then so did Clear And Present Danger when there was talk of Jack Ryan being the 007 for the nineties. Or Arnold S... in True Lies, or ... Perhaps even Ethan Hunt / Mission: Impossible They're all good but they're not 007 so, for me, they are all imposters. Hence, whilst I accept that the Broccoli family has to keep an eye on the competition it shouldn't be copying them. GoldenEye was the first to really do this with Piece Brosnan looking a bit like a John (Die Hard) McClane cast-off ... taken a step further in Tomorrow Never Dies. I think it's to the 007 films' detriment to do this. So whilst I want action scenes, I don't want wall-to-wall action and I don't want fast cuts which make it impossible to work out what's happening, plastered with ear-splitting music. That's not too much to ask for ... is it?

I'd be lying if I said it WOULDN'T be interesting to see Almaric play the same ailments that his character in The Diving Bell and the Butterfly had. Now THAT would be an interesting Bond villian! Now that would be the funniest overlap of film universes that I ever did see! (I'm still getting over seeing Chabrol's GIRL CUT IN TWO and Miller's UN SECRET within a week of eachother, both films pivoting on a self-destructive act by a lovely character played by the same actress, Ludivine Sagnier.)

Now, Martin Campbell he may not be but, then again, he doesn't haveta be; he's his own original (which mebbe is why Mr. Wilson and Ms. Broccoli were so determined to beam him aboard the Bond-wagon). After all, isn't your favorite production designer part of the team? T.A.N.A. (There Are No Accidents) ...
